Seminar: Chemical Signaling Induced by Phytoplankton Death

October 21, 2020, 3:30 pm

4:30 pm

Join us for our Science Seminar as Dr. Bethanie Edwards, Assistant Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences at UC Berkeley, talks about her research on “chemical signaling induced by various modes of phytoplankton death and the implications for the microbial loop.”

Dr. Edwards studies oxylipin – a chemical “language” spoken by phytoplankton in the ocean and, amazingly, the immune cells in our bodies. By investigating how this language works, Edwards shows how we can gain a deeper understanding of the planet – and ourselves.

The weekly Science Seminar series at EOS Center is sponsored by the Rosenberg Institute for Marine Biology and Environmental Science.
