The 49ers EDU Digital Playbook is geared towards K-8 students and is centered on how STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) is an integral part of football. Through activities that include understanding how weather conditions can affect the physics of a field goal kick and making a checklist of how environmentally friendly your home is, students will sharpen their math and science skills all the while reinforcing critical thinking and reading comprehension. The playbook also includes 49ers team history, the rules of the game, and an extensive glossary.

The Digital Playbook was adapted from its hardcopy format to create a fun and interactive resource for in-home use. Although they are unable to learn with us physically, participants now have access to all the same curriculum they would have at Levi’s® Stadium while attending our STEAM Field Trip program. On an annual basis, 49ers EDU brings in over 60,000 participants from across the Bay Area to Levi’s® Stadium for content-rich lessons teaching the STEAM principles of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics in one of four state-of-the-art classrooms.

The San Francisco 49ers EDU program introduced its interactive Digital Playbook in April, in place of its direct-service education work during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to continue its commitment to serve teachers and students 365 days a year. With educators altering their curriculum and so many parents taking on the responsibility of teaching, we wanted to extend our resources to help support everyone through this new era of at-home learning in a compelling and innovative way. The goal was to expand access to our program virtually and, hopefully, take a small burden off parents and educators by providing supplemental learning activities and break up the monotony in a student’s day.

The playbook is the first of a series of initiatives 49ers EDU developed, the most recent being the Digital Playbook Review video lesson series, which launched in mid-August. The ideation beyond this video series was to use the knowledge gained in the six-plus years 49ers EDU has been in existence and apply that knowledge to bring Bay Area teachers and learners our programming virtually.

In our live session you will learn about the four forces! All ages are welcome to participate. A list of items will be provided ahead of time. (This will include items found around your home.) We hope you can join us!
